Aims and Objectives

  • The ILM Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management aims to give practising or potential first linemanagers the foundation in this role.
  • The ILM Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management aims to give practicing or potential first line managers the widest choice for their formal development in this role.


The Aims of the Qualifications are :

  • To improve the performance, business focus and the effectiveness of first line managers
  • To introduce management theory and concepts that can be applied in practice
  • To support participants to help them become more effective managers and to gain recognition for your development.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will normally be either practicing or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

It is suggested that participants should have been in a managerial role for at least 12 months, and have received little/no management development to date.


  • The programme is suitable for individuals from all disciplines.
  • It will also help managers who are preparing for a promotion to more senior responsibilities or whose role is changing.
